Efficient Approach for OS-CFAR 2D Technique Using Distributive Histograms and Breakdown Point Optimal Concept applied to Acoustic Images

    Get PDF
In this work, a new approach to improve the algorithmic efficiency of the Order Statistic-Constant False Alarm Rate (OS-CFAR) applied in two dimensions (2D) is presented. OS-CFAR is widely used in radar technology for detecting moving objects as well as in sonar technology for the relevant areas of segmentation and multi-target detection on the seafloor. OS-CFAR rank orders the samples obtained from a sliding window around a test cell to select a representative sample that is used to calculate an adaptive detection threshold maintaining a false alarm probability. Then, the test cell is evaluated to determine the presence or absence of a target based on the calculated threshold. The rank orders allows that OS-CFAR technique to be more robust in multi-target situations and less sensitive than other methods to the presence of the speckle noise, but requires higher computational effort. This is the bottleneck of the technique. Consequently, the contribution of this work is to improve the OS-CFAR 2D with the distributive histograms and the optimal breakdown point optimal concept, mainly from the standpoint of efficient computation. In this way, the OS-CFAR 2D on-line computation was improved, by means of speeding up the samples sorting problem through the improvement in the calculus of the statistics order. The theoretical algorithm analysis is presented to demonstrate the improvement of this approach. Also, this novel efficient OS-CFAR 2D was contrasted experimentally on acoustic images.Fil: Villar, Sebastian Aldo. Universidad Nacional del Centro de la Provincia de Buenos Aires. A robust version of the Lee filter for speckle reduction and contrast enhancement applied to side scan sonar images

    Get PDF
Sonar images are typically affected by a granular pattern interference known as speckle noise, which degrades image contrast. To aid in object detection and recognition for speckled imagery, a robust version of the Lee filter is presented. The new method essentially combines robust statistics with an adaptive approach to achieve an effective balance between contrast stretching and speckle reduction. Tests were performed on real sonar images, where objective metrics and direct visual perception were used to evaluate the results. Experiments have shown that this easy-to-implement filter remarkably highlights edges and details with apparent speckle reduction, offering a promising simple tool that may be useful in segmentation and classification applications.Publicado en: 2020 IEEE Congreso Bienal de Argentina (ARGENCON

Solving Logistic-Oriented Bin Packing Problems Through a Hybrid Quantum-Classical Approach

The Bin Packing Problem is a classic problem with wide industrial applicability. In fact, the efficient packing of items into bins is one of the toughest challenges in many logistic corporations and is a critical issue for reducing storage costs or improving vehicle space allocation. In this work, we resort to our previously published quantum-classical framework known as Q4RealBPP, and elaborate on the solving of real-world oriented instances of the Bin Packing Problem. With this purpose, this paper gravitates on the following characteristics: i) the existence of heterogeneous bins, ii) the extension of the framework to solve not only three-dimensional, but also one- and two-dimensional instances of the problem, iii) requirements for item-bin associations, and iv) delivery priorities. All these features have been tested in this paper, as well as the ability of Q4RealBPP to solve real-world oriented instances.Comment: 7 pages, 7 figures, paper accepted for being presented in the upcoming 26th IEEE International Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems - ITSC 202

Hybrid Approach for Solving Real-World Bin Packing Problem Instances Using Quantum Annealers

Efficient packing of items into bins is a common daily task. Known as Bin Packing Problem, it has been intensively studied in the field of artificial intelligence, thanks to the wide interest from industry and logistics. Since decades, many variants have been proposed, with the three-dimensional Bin Packing Problem as the closest one to real-world use cases. We introduce a hybrid quantum-classical framework for solving real-world three-dimensional Bin Packing Problems (Q4RealBPP), considering different realistic characteristics, such as: i) package and bin dimensions, ii) overweight restrictions, iii) affinities among item categories and iv) preferences for item ordering. Q4RealBPP permits the solving of real-world oriented instances of 3dBPP, contemplating restrictions well appreciated by industrial and logistics sectors.Comment: 9 pages, 24 figure

Digital Quantum Simulation and Circuit Learning for the Generation of Coherent States

    Get PDF
Coherent states, known as displaced vacuum states, play an important role in quantum information processing, quantum machine learning, and quantum optics. In this article, two ways to digitally prepare coherent states in quantum circuits are introduced. First, we construct the displacement operator by decomposing it into Pauli matrices via ladder operators, i.e., creation and annihilation operators. The high fidelity of the digitally generated coherent states is verified compared with the Poissonian distribution in Fock space. Secondly, by using Variational Quantum Algorithms, we choose different ansatzes to generate coherent states. The quantum resources—such as numbers of quantum gates, layers and iterations—are analyzed for quantum circuit learning. The simulation results show that quantum circuit learning can provide high fidelity on learning coherent states by choosing appropriate ansatzes. This research is funded by the QUANTEK project (ELKARTEK program from the Basque Government, expedient No. KK-2021/00070), the project “BRTA QUANTUM: Hacia una especialización armonizada en tecnologías cuánticas en BRTA” (expedient No. KK-2022/00041)

Particle Filter based Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Navigation System aided thru acoustic communication ranging

    Get PDF
Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) are platforms suitable for a wide variety of applications in the marine environment with economic and operational advantages. In these applications an AUV performs a given task as a mission. During the mission execution, the AUV will move around the environment following paths that allow it to fulfill the mission's objectives. To achieve this, a reliable Navigation System (NS) is required. In addition to this, the current operating concept includes the deployment of multiple AUVs on a given area, thus a communication system between vehicles is also required. In the underwater environment both navigation and communication systems deals with the particular characteristics of the medium that limits the use of conventional techniques. In this work, a complete NS for an AUV is presented. The developed NS is based on an inertial navigation scheme with velocity and position aiding. The position aiding takes advantage of the communication system onboard the vehicle, which avoids the use of additional positioning systems. The fundamentals of the applied solutions are described and experimental results and implementation details are provided. Also conclusions and future works are presented
